Dear Friend,
I know this journey is not easy, but please remember—you are stronger than you think. Cancer does not define you. Take each day one step at a time, and hold on to hope.
As a survivor, I want you to know that healing is possible and brighter days do come. Keep believing, keep fighting—you are never alone.
With strength and hope,
A fellow survivor
Some people may know what you’re going through, because they’ve been there, and others might not have a clue. But what we all have in common is the administration for a cancer warrior’s strength and resilience and we all support you in your journey. Stay strong and conquer!
You have no idea the strength that is in you. Keep fighting!
To every warrior and survivor — your strength and courage lights the way for so many. Keep holding on to hope. You are so loved, you are brave, and you are never alone.

Stay strong little fighter, tomorrow will be brighter
2 Corinthians 12:9
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Call out to Jesus today, make Him your strength. For without Him there is no true hope.

The Heart Behind the Campaign
The Veronica Minnie Cancer Support Trust (CancerAssist)
CancerAssist exists to support cancer patients in the Nelson Mandela Bay area who are facing serious financial difficulties during
treatment.
Even though most patients at the Cancercare Oncology Unit in Langenhoven Drive have medical aid, many still struggle to afford:
Transport to and from treatment
Basic pain medication
Meals during long hospital stays
Appointments for severe symptoms when funds run out
In South Africa, 1 in 8 people will be affected by cancer, and many face this journey alone and unsupported.

Why the Trust Was Started
The Veronica Minnie Fund was created by Cancercare after a generous bequest from a patient. It later evolved
into the Veronica Minnie Cancer Support Trust (CancerAssist) with the help of donors and the Hope 300
campaign, launched by the late Janine Coetzee’s family.

Care Bears for CancerAssist
Lydia van Eyk, a chemo sister at the Cancercare Oncology Unit in Langenhoven Drive, was diagnosed with breast cancer in
March 2016 and had to undergo a double mastectomy. While in hospital, Lydia realised how fortunate she was to have access to
quality medical care and a medical aid to help cover her treatment expenses. But many others are not as fortunate. To give back,
Lydia became involved in supporting cancer patients who struggle financially — helping launch the Veronica Minnie Cancer
Support Trust (CancerAssist).

How the Care Bears Help
In 2017, Lydia started crafting teddy bear brooches, each with a heart representing a different type of cancer.
These Care Bears are sold for just R10 each, with all proceeds going directly to CancerAssist.
Thanks to this initiative and the power of collective giving, over R40,000 was raised last month alone.

Every Colour Counts
Each Care Bear’s heart represents a different cancer awareness colour —
collect your bear and wear it with pride.

FAQ's
How do I share my fridge note?
You can write your personal message of hope, support, or encouragement and upload it directly on our website underneath the section titled Letters from the Fridge. All you need to do is fill in your name (optional), type your letter and add an image (optional) before clicking submit letter. Whether it’s a simple word or a heartfelt letter, every note makes a difference.
Can I submit a digital note instead of a handwritten one?
Yes, absolutely! You can also type your note directly on our website if you prefer. Both digital and handwritten notes are welcome – it’s the message that matters most.
Where will the notes be displayed?
All notes will appear on our Crickley Online Fridge featured on our website, creating a wall of encouragement for all breast cancer warriors.
How do the notes support cancer patients?
Every note you share spreads love and encouragement, while every pink cap purchased contributes financially. A portion of the proceeds goes to the Veronica Minnie Fund, which supports breast cancer patients. Together, your pink notes and #PickPink purchases bring real hope.
Can I still donate without submitting a note?
Yes, of course! While we’d love for you to leave a message of support, you can choose to donate directly to the Veronica Minnie Fund through the information provided on our website. Every contribution helps fight breast cancer, with or without a note.
